How can I improve my child's reading skills?
Reading with your child daily is key to his/her reading development. AR is a GREAT way to see improvement in your child's fluency and comprehension skills. Your child has been assessed to determine his/her reading level and point goal. He/she should be reading and testing weekly to reach his/her goals. WE WANT TO SEE EVERY CHILD IN 3rd GRADE MEET HIS/HER AR GOAL! There are also a few websites on our resources page to help with reading skills. If you are looking for more resources, feel free to set up a conference with us.
How can I improve my child's math skills?
Practice, practice, practice those multiplication facts. Learning those facts are ESSENTIAL! Sing a song, practice flashcards, play a math computer game--practice those facts as much as possible! You can find a couple of resources on our page to help with math as well. If you are looking for more resources, feel free to set up a conference with us.
How do you divide supplies among students?
We use community supplies at Peabody. Each group receives a bucket of supplies to be shared (pencils, glue sticks, crayons, and scissors). Therefore, please keep special pencils at home for doing homework..
What is the discipline policy in the cafeteria?
Students are monitored in the cafeteria by adults, as wells as two of their peers (we call them the cafeteria monitors). There is a green cup placed on the end of every table. If the class is too loud or rowdy, they will receive a verbal warning. After at least one warning, the cup is moved to symbolize a warning. If they continue to misbehave, the cup is moved to yellow. And, if it continues, the class is moved to red and must remain silent.
There is a "paycheck" for the cafeteria monitors if the class stays on green for the week (4 eagle bucks) or yellow (2 eagle bucks).
What are the classroom discipline policies?
For minor offenses (blurting out, talking while others are talking, disrespecting adults, etc.), at least two verbal warnings will be given to the student/class. After the second verbal warning, the student will receive a conduct check.
For major offenses (throwing supplies, endangering self or others, damaging property, etc), a conduct check will be given immediately and additional action will be taken according to the severity of the offense.
If a student receives multiple conduct checks in one day, he/she will walk one lap at recess to reflect on his/her behavior, and a parent/guardian will be contacted.
Rewards: Students will receive "Eagle Bucks" for exceptional behavior that they can use at the school store. Students will also be awarded with class rewards for good listening, kindness to others, and hard work. These rewards include extra computer time, small group activities, picking a special spot in the room to do classwork, special pencils/bookmarks, etc. These rewards will not be given for grades but for good behavior and hard work.
